College & Career Readiness

Our goal is to prepare youth for future success. When we say college, we think about it as any post-secondary aspiration a youth has including 2 year programs, 4 year degrees, technical school, certification program, military service, and faith service.

What we do

Through our youth programs we work to provide a variety of opportunities so youth can strengthen the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in entry-level college courses, certificate programs, or the workforce. This not only includes academic support, but helping them build soft skills like communication, and providing them with connections so they are prepared for their post-secondary journey towards a successful career path.

Career Pathways is a college and career readiness program for 16-19 year olds. Pathways Cohorts runs from October to August and consists of 3 important phases.
- Professional Development: Build workplace, communication, technology, and career readiness skills.
- Community Innovation Project: Work as a team to solve a real community challenge using technology and engineering.
- Paid Summer Internship: Gain hands-on experience with local employers while applying new skills in a professional setting.
By the end of the program, participants leave with valuable experience, professional connections, and the confidence to pursue college, careers, and lifelong success.
Our staff help connect youth with first-time employment opportunities and internships that are youth friendly, in a safe environment, with flexible scheduling that promote lifelong economic self-sufficiency.
South Salt Lake offers limited one-time scholarships to seniors graduating from Cottonwood High School who live in South Salt Lake and have shown responsibility, strong work ethic, and adaptability. Scholarship applications typically open in November and close in March of each year.
Through our afterschool programs and summer camps, youth are provided with post-secondary preparation activities and resources including work-place and life skill development, credit recovery, college site visits, certification and training programs, scholarship support, and advising.
